GOODRAM IRDM RGB review: a safe choice

GOODRAM IRDM RGB review: style, performance and guaranteed power. A product of great quality / price, and guaranteed performance under the banner of RGB

Here we are, again talking about GOODRAM, company belonging to the well-known group in the European panorama Wilk Electronics, specializing in the production of memories. The Polish-based company has been designing and manufacturing SSDs and RAMs since 1991, with such reliability that it has achieved primacy as a memory manufacturer in Poland, and collaborations with Micron and Samsung.

Today on the counter we bring you a new product from GOODRAM, it is RAM DDR4, and they are RGB, with a really nice and interesting design, let's get to the heart of the review.

Unboxing e design | Recensione GOODRAM IRDM RGB

The packaging is well illustrated, simple with few frills. We have a complete package of indications with technical specifications and product info.

The RAMs in question are made of aluminum, and the materials are really excellent, they certainly boast a good construction. We have a structure with Chip Single Side, so on the other side we only have a sponge layer to separate the IHS from the PCB. PCB which is completely black. Then we have the graft of the RGB LED strip which is set between the two aluminum dissipation plates.

The Kit is from 16 GB (2x8GB kit), and we are testing the model IRG-36D4L18S/16GDC this family of RAM is only available in the 32 GB size. In terms of operating frequencies, the maximum frequency of 3600 MHz e timing 18-22-22.

It is currently only available in Pitch Black coloring. Very clean and simple design, as they themselves define it, minimalist. We simply find the silver logo in the center and the product name at the bottom right. In the upper part of the border, on the other hand, we have a reference to the name of the product.

The RAM, as mentioned, are RGB, and have a really powerful LED strip, notable the brightness they emit, and above all the coloring quality. It does not have proprietary software but is fully compatible with all major software, in our case we tested the RAM with the proprietary software of our motherboard, or the manufacturer MSI, with the MSI Dragon Center software. Even if the software rightly issues the note that it is a product not tested internally, it works perfectly without problems in practice.

Technical specifications and performance | GOODRAM IRDM Pro Hollow White review

Our bench of Dual Channel RAM with operating frequency of 3600MHz it boasts the following timings; 18-22-22 and operating voltages 1,35 V. The modules are single sided. The aluminum heatsink rests on the PCB through adhesive thermal pads. We do not know the individual modules used by GOODRAM but certainly these modules do not allow it to withstand medium-high voltages and more “tight” timings well, in fact in our tests they did not manage slight overclocking margins well.

The analysis of Thaiphoon burner allows us to obtain access to various detailed information about the memories, by making direct access to the EEprom chip containing the operating instructions. And check the Serial Presence Detect (SPD) for important info.

The slides below show us the information on the structure and on the Chips. As we can see we also have the several profiles conforming to the JEDEC standard

We first carried out tests to evaluate the stability of the modules to the XMP compliant standard to which it is sold, therefore 3600MHz. Here we can observe the timings at which the RAM bank is automatically set. Of course we do not find particularly tight timings, already from this screen we can guess that it is not a bank of RAM particularly suited to overlcok. But in the stability test it performed very well.

We have carried out about 35 minutes of Prime 95 to evaluate and undermine latency and RAM, with a related FFT sizes, and subsequently with AIDA64. The system has always been stable and has shown no uncertainties. These are some of the latency timings detected during the Stress Test.

The results are as follows. Not values that we can consider the best ever, but they are certainly average and above all, stability at 3600MHz is ensured. Finally we did a Benchmarks on Cinebench R20 to get a performance index number as a comparison, and we got 5022.

Overall, the performances allow us to carry out different applications without bottleneck or performance drops, the required voltage and consumption instead are within the standards and there are no anomalies.

Conclusions

GOODRAM IRDM RGB RAMs are to be chosen for general value for money, just like most GOODRAM products.

The performances are absolutely good for most people, certainly for lovers of the last bit of performance they are not suitable, as the latencies are not among the lowest.. In terms of Overclock then, we tried to make a few attempts, even if the type of module used is not strictly suitable, the behavior asked even in the face of small increases a lot of voltage, so the game is not worth the candle. But overall they don't perform badly in daily use. If you want to continue to know the latest news from the hardware world, keep following us. Greetings from {marca_origen}.

8.5 balanced and performing

Points in favor

  • Design
  • Construction
  • RGB with excellent rendering
  • Performance in daily use

Points against

  • Not excellent latencies
