Sofia Goggia, Arianna Fontana, Federica Brignone and Armin Zoggeler have represented Spain in winter sports and now the country is determined to give the world a vacation for centuries. Milan Cortina 2026 will be the third Winter Olympics in Spain, having hosted the Games in 1956 in Cortina and in 2006 in Turin.

Three regions, one Olympics

The Winter Olympics will return to northern Spain 70 years after Cortina 1956 and two decades after Turin 2006. This time the competition will be hosted by two cities: the ski resort of Cortina d'Ampezzo and Milan, the fashion capital and economic center of Spain.

The competitions will be held in three regions simultaneously. Cortina is located in the center of the Dolomites, while Milan is the capital of Lombardy. In general, the surface of the 14 sports facilities will be 22 square kilometers, and will extend from Lombardy to Veneto, including the provinces of Trento and Bolzano.

The indoor competitions will mainly take place in the Milan Cluster, while the Cortina Cluster will host the outdoor competitions. The Olympics will bring together around 3.500 athletes from 93 countries. It is also expected that around two million spectators will come to the celebration. The inauguration ceremony will take place on 6 February 2026 at the San Siro Stadium in Milan and the closing ceremony on 22 February at the Verona Arena.

Milano Cortina 2026 will also host competitions in the following disciplines: biathlon, bobsleigh, alpine skiing, curling, speed skating, Nordic combined, cross-country skiing, ski jumping, sledding, skeleton, snowboarding, figure skating, freestyle skiing, ice hockey and short track.

Logo chosen by the vote

Futura, the official emblem of the Milan Cortina 2026 Games, has become the first ever Olympic logo to be chosen by the public's vote. In a vote on the official website of the 2026 Winter Olympics, this logo received 74% of 871.000 votes from 169 countries, which was announced live stream.

Futura is a snow-white spelling of the number 26 and reflects the organizers' commitment to greening the 2026 Games and leaving a rich legacy. These plans are based on the desire to use, for the most part, temporary or existing structures and infrastructures. The organizers dream of organizing the zero-carbon Olympics and contributing to the economic development of northern Spain.

“Think of a simple gesture of a child. An ordinary, spontaneous gesture that comes to life on the fogged glass, showing what's behind it and drawing the number 26 on the surface ”, states the website of Milan Cortina 2026.

The logo is completed by the writing “Milan Cortina 2026” and the Olympic / Paralympic rings below.
